Chinese fantasy romance drama How Dare You!? premiered on iQIYI this morning with the streaming service releasing eight character posters from the C-drama to celebrate.
Those character posters, featuring each character as a cardboard cutout, are for leads Wang Chu Ran (who plays Yu Wan Yin / Wang Cui Hua), Cheng Lei (aka Ryan Cheng) (plays Xiahou Dan / Zhang San), Tang Xiao Tian (Xiahou Bo) and Hu Yi Xuan (Xie Yong Er).
Supporting actors Ma Su (Queen Mother), Cui Yi (Bei Zhou), Louis Fan (Ho Ku Fu Ne) and Cheng Hong Xin (Ah Bai) also earned one.
The eight posters arrived with a message from iQIYI that will cause C-drama fans to become even more interested in its plot:
Some people “rewrite the script” on the spot, while others cling tightly to the original novel. When the characters become truly “alive”will they obediently follow the storyline, or join forces to tear apart fate and rewrite it?
Personally, I already dropped How Dare You!? just two episodes in.
Not because the drama is bad, as it’s perfectly serviceable, but I have already watched the excellent donghua twice and, not being a particular Cheng Lei fan (don’t dislike him, can just take him or leave him), I don’t see the need to re-meet the same story again when the male lead is an actor I think is miscast in this.
If you like Cheng Lei, or haven’t watched the donghua, chances are you will enjoy it as, from the couple of episodes I watched, the drama is well-written and decently acted.
Well, the acting is over-the-top and seems quite fake, but it is appropriate for the premise.
Enjoy the How Dare You!? live action drama then (and it’s character posters), if that’s the case.
After all, most international viewers commenting on My Drama List have been giving the C-drama and its actors high praise.
