Welcome to Michelle Topham
Hi, I’m Michelle Topham, a British/American journalist currently based in Vienna, Austria.
British, in that I was born, educated and raised in the UK (Gisburn Road Primary School, Barnoldswick and Skipton Girls High School, Skipton), but also American as I emigrated to the United States with my parents in my late teens and eventually became a naturalized American citizen.
In the U.S. , by the way, I gained a BA in Political Science at Miami University (Ohio).
And yep, that sounds like I was well on my way to a career in law, politics, business or in non-profits, doesn’t it?
Well, the latter would be true, as I then spent over 20 years working as a Fundraising Executive at various non-profits around the U.S., with a bit of journalism on the side, before, being the always unsettled person I am, moving to Bangkok, Thailand to teach English.
And that is where I found the love of my life – everything Asian entertainment — but specifically C-dramas, which I have now covered on various websites for the last 20 years, and currently write about on Michelle Topham.com.
I write about anime and donghua on Baozi Buns, my newest website.
As a resident of Vienna, Austria for several years, after moving here because of a drag queen (Conchita Wurst — don’t ask!) I also write about all things Vienna at Oh My Vienna. (Although that site needs an update I will be getting to soon).
What you can expect on Michelle Topham
But, back to Chinese dramas, as that is what you will find on this site (mostly, although other things connected to them and to China might pop up occasionally!), here’s what you can expect to find about those:
- In-depth articles on everything C-drama
- C-drama news
- Reviews of dramas I love… or don’t
- Information about upcoming shows, posters, trailers, basically anything that promotes new shows that I think is interesting or beautiful
- My favorite comments from Douban (the popular Chinese social networking, review and ratings site)
- And a whole lot more
What you will NOT get is gossip about Chinese actors, production studios, streaming services etc, or what netizens think about any of them as that kind of stuff just gives me the ick.
