Last 5 episodes of The Prisoner of Beauty now available on WeTV Express
More stills from the just completed Chinese drama The Prisoner of Beauty have dropped (above and below) as the final five episodes are now available to watch via WeTV Express after being unlocked on May 29th.
The nine new The Prisoner of Beauty stills (Yep, I use them as wallpapers) arrived via the C-drama’s official Weibo account, along with a comment thanking viewers:
“Waist-deep in Admiration” #TheBowingWaist#
Their story brims with a lover’s devotion, a brother’s loyalty, and a family’s warmth. And of course—it carries every bit of your companionship, walking alongside them through every chapter.
The title in Chinese, of course, can be translated to ‘The Bowing Waist‘, hence, the pun on “腰” (waist) from the Chinese title 折腰 (The Bowing Waist).
And yes, for most international viewers at least, The Prisoner of Beauty has turned out to be one of 2025’s big winners so far, as it is currently being rated on My Drama List with a crazy high (for that site) of 9.0 out of 10, and with no sign of dropping. Yikes!
The Prisoner of Beauty production details
The Chinese historical political romance drama stars the excellent main cast of Song Zu Er (star of The Demon Hunter’s Romance), Liu Yu Ning (star of Eternal Brotherhood), Xuan Lu (supporting cast in Who Rules the World), and Liu Duan Duan (Joy of Life).
It is directed by Deng Ke (Guardians of the Dafeng) who is one of China’s best directors (so no surprise The Prisoner of Beauty has performed so well, eh?), alongside co-director Gao Cong Kai (Why Women Love).
The Chinese drama is based on the web novel Zhe Yao (折腰) written by Peng Lai Ke (蓬莱客), and is written by Nan Zhen (The Furthest Distance).
The Prisoner of Beauty‘s plot is a brilliant one as it follows Xiao Qiao (Song Zu Er) who enters into an arranged marriage with Wei Shao (Liu Yu Ning).
At first, the two are uncomfortable and wary with each other but, as they become closer, they eventually form a strong bond and partnership that enables them to deal with just about everything thrown at them.
And, believe me, there’s a lot.
The Prisoner of Beauty mini drama
Now the main C-drama has ended, it has also just been announced there will be a mini drama based on the C-drama coming out.
No details have been released as yet, except that it will begin filming next month.
Now, I’m not generally a fan of mini dramas (budgets, writing and performances usually fall short).
But, if they are your thing, and you want more from The Prisoner of Beauty world, look out for it. Although don’t expect the main characters to be featured in it, as they have all moved on to other projects.
