Let’s face it, you can be forgiven if you have forgotten all about the upcoming historical rom-com Better Halves (aka 明媒善娶) starring Snow Kong and Ren Hao.
After all, the Chinese drama did start filming in September, 2021, received its distribution license the following September, and then just disappeared into the ether for the next three years.
But, today, Better Halves has finally resurfaced as iQIYI released its official poster and, believe it or not, the Better Halves premiere date of — wait for it — July 24th.
Yep, three days from now.
The Chinese drama’s new poster (above) and its premiere date arrived via the streaming service’s Weibo account this morning, along with a message about its plot:

Better Halves is directed by Hsu Pei Shan (A Female Student Arrives at the Imperial College), and is written by Ivan Ai (costume designer for The Prisoner of Beauty).
Baidu Baike describes its plot in this way:
The pampered heiress of a prestigious matchmaking family, Shi Fa Ke (played by Kong Xue Er — aka Snow Kong), crosses paths with the rugged and multi-talented “bandit heir” Lu Chi (played by Ren Hao), who descends from the mountains in search of his “little sister.”
Determined to restore her family’s glory as the “No. 1 Matchmaker in the World,” Shi Fa Ke finds an unlikely ally in Lu Chi, who reluctantly transforms into her devoted protector, embarking on a hilarious yet arduous “road to win her heart.”
Through countless trials, the duo works together to solve numerous romantic and marital dilemmas.
Unfortunately, with very limited promotion of Better Halves, it remains to be seen how successful it will be.
Considering it is screenwriter Ivan Ai’s first produced drama, though, I am willing to give it a chance as I love to welcome a new writer into the Chinese drama world, don’t you?
Better Halves is set to premiere on iQIYI on July 24th. A BTS video (watch below) released two years ago will give you a look at what you can expect and, yep, this one looks like it’s right up my alley.
