The Chen Xing Xu and Lu Yu Xiao-led drama Love Between Lines is going gangbusters on iQIYI, where fans are raving about both the plot and the lead actors’ performances.
The 28-episode Chinese contemporary romance drama wrapped filming in June, 2025 and premiered on the platform on January 9th, and quickly grabbed 8,500 on iQIYI’s heat index.
Of course, as always, iQIYI did a stellar job promoting the Chinese drama before it even released, and continued that promotion after its first episodes dropped.
Including putting up enormous Love Between Lines billboards in Beijing and Shanghai the day the C-drama premiered, while reminding fans the billboards will be up for a few days so they and their friends should head there to take photos.
The Chinese drama (titled 轧戏 in China) is directed by Mao De Shu (When I Fly Towards You), and has been released as part of the IQIYI Heartbeat Theater.
Along with Chen Xing Xu and Lu Yu Xiao in the leads, the supporting cast also features Dai Xu, Kido Ma, Li Ting Ting, Ren You Lun, Wu Luo Han, and Zhao Hao Hong.
The Love Between Lines plot looks like this:
Xiao Zhiyu, and Hu Xiu, first encounter each other during a murder mystery game.
Set in a Republic of China-themed scenario, they assume fake identities in the game and act out fictional plots, yet both grow curious about each other’s real-life persona.
Then, in their modern day real life, Xiao Zhiyu and Hu Xiu also meet as if destined by fate.
From there, the story unfolds in dual narratives—one following the fictional plot of the murder mystery game, the other depicting their real-life encounters.
Amidst the interplay of illusion and reality, the pair soon come to understand their true feelings. Now will they find their way to each other, and end up happily ever after?
