Upcoming Chinese drama Pursuit of Jade (aka Zhu Yu) got its official trailer today via WeTV’s official X account. and via YouTube.
But, as is usual with most WeTV dramas, we still didn’t get a solid premiere date and probably won’t until days before it premieres.
With the Pursuit of Jade trailer now hitting, however, even though to western audiences that usually appears it won’t be long, that’s likely not true. Especially as the drama only finished filming in April.
In other words, Pursuit of Jade will likely get a 2026 premiere at the earliest then. So yep, we have a fair wait ahead of us yet.
Along with the trailer, WeTV also gave us a small hint about the C-drama’s plot:
Fate forged in fire, love tested by blades.
A butcher’s daughter and a fallen lord rise, unveiling truth through blood and valor.
Pursuit of Jade production details
The upcoming C-drama is based on the novel of the same name (逐玉 aka Chasing Jade) by Tuanzi Laixi ((团子来袭).
It stars Zhang Ling He (Story of Kunning Palace) and Tian Xi Wei (Guardians of the Dafeng) in the lead roles.
While I have been a big fan of Zhang Ling He ever since he starred in My Journey to You, so am certainly very happy he was cast, I am particularly interested Tian Xi Wei’s performance and character in this.
I say this as, while I think the Chinese actress did a superb job as Princess Lin An in Guardians of the Dafeng, I was not a fan of the incredibly spoiled character overall, and was more than disappointed when it became obvious she would probably hook up with Dylan Wang’s Xu Qi An (that fabulous man could do a lot better!)
It will be interesting then to see how she plays butcher’s daughter Fan Zhang Yu.
A girl who’s not spoiled at all, and who has seen a helluva lot more hardship than that privileged brat but, from the trailer at least, appears to be quite upbeat and positive.
The supporting cast is also excellent as it includes Snow Kong (currently starring in Serendipity), Deng Kai (Love of the Divine Tree), Li Qing (Nothing But You), Yu Zhong Li (Wife Above All), and Yue Yang (also appeared in Guardians of the Dafeng).
Pursuit of Jade is being directed by Zeng Qing Jie (Blossom), and is written by Zou Yue (Love Like the Galaxy).
According to WeTV, the Zhu Yu plot looks like this:
Fan Chang Yu is a butcher’s daughter, and Xie Zheng, a fallen noble seeking revenge. Their fake marriage turns into true love, but war tears them apart.
Determined, Fan Chang Yu wields her butcher’s knife on the battlefield, searching for justice and her husband. Meanwhile, Xie Zheng reclaims his title, fighting to protect his country and love. Reunited in battle, they stand together, defying fate and uncovering the truth.
The 40-episode historical romance drama will stream on Tencent Video, WeTV or iQIYI depending on where in the world you are located.

Update: Zhu Yu (aka Pursuit of Jade) is now scheduled to premiere on March 6th, 2026. I told you it would be a while before we would see what all the fuss is about, didn’t I?
