New Rosefinch ‘mystery poster’ drops featuring Wan Qi An, Qin Jun Jie, Lin Le Xuan and Zhang Cheng

Rosefinch poster

There’s a new poster out for upcoming Chinese suspense thriller Rosefinch via the official iQIYI Weibo account, along with the message:

#Rosefinch# releases #Mystery Version Poster#

“Strange occurrences are frequent in Shanghai’s bustling streets, with hidden secrets beneath its glamorous surface.”

Wan Qi An (@万茜), Qin Jun Jie (@秦俊杰), Lin Le Xuan (@林乐炫), and Zhang Cheng (@张呈Zhc) join forces to solve bizarre cases and uncover the truth behind the opulence.

Premiering first on @iQIYI! Stay tuned for more information!

The C-drama is based on the novel “Zhu Que Tang” (朱雀堂) written by Gui Ma Xing (鬼马星), and is directed by Xie Zhong Dao (aka Kenny Tse) who also directed The Limbo.

Rosefinch began filming on February 15th, 2025, in Hengdian, and wrapped up that filming on April 2nd.

As far as has been reported by Chinese media, Rosefinch has not yet received its distribution license. Although that could just mean that the various websites I use for research are not being updated. (Update, June 30th, 2025: Rosefinch has its distribution license and also now has its premiere date).

The Rosefinch plot goes like this:

In 1929, a bizarre and perplexing double murder case involving a dance hall girl and a closet occurs in Shanghai’s underworld.

Subsequently, the killer claims the lives of several more dance hall girls. Forensic expert Xia Mo (played by Qin Jun Jie) and astute detective Tang Zhen Yun (played by Zhang Cheng) unexpectedly uncover that behind the murders lurks an even more sinister and darker web of power and carnal deals—the slain girls were all intended as sacrificial playthings for shadowy, powerful figures.

All of this is intricately linked to Shanghai’s most luxurious dance hall, the Vermilion Phoenix Pavilion.

Gao Ying (played by Wan Qian), the female proprietor of the Vermilion Phoenix Pavilion, is initially at odds with Xia Mo and Tang Zhen Yun, but later joins forces with them to protect the girls under her care and uncover the truth.

However, they soon realize that an even greater danger than the serial killer has been lurking close by all along…

Like moths drawn to a flame, they risk their lives to pierce through the darkness of 1929, reclaiming but a faint glimmer of light.
