The Ingenious One 2 grabs 1 million pre-orders with no premiere date in sight
It’s been a couple of years since Chen Xiao and Mao Xiao Tong’s wuxia romance drama The Ingenious One ended (May 21st, 2023) and we now have word The Ingenious One, Season 2 has already exceeded 1 million pre-orders.
That notification came via iQIYI this week along with a new visual featuring leads Chen Xiao, Mao Xiao Tong and Liu Guan Lin, who are all returning to reprise their roles in this latest installment of the hit series.
iQIYI also stroked fans’ egos with the message:
A million pre-registrations have gathered here, revealing profound wisdom and strategy. Continuing the journey, the world is vast; let’s join hands to break the deadlock.
And no, we still don’t have any word about a possible premiere date for the Chinese drama.
It did wrap filming on January 24th, 2025, though, so we are heading quite rapidly towards a premiere date I would say.
Especially as The Ingenious One 2 was granted its distribution license by the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) back in July.
The Ingenious One 2 production details
Like Season 1, The Ingenious One 2 is being directed by Patrick Yau, and with the screenplay by the same three writers — Yan Xi, Liang Zhen Hua and Jiang Da Qiao.
Many of its supporting actors are also returning in their roles.
Chances are then the tone of the C-drama should be pretty consistent with Season 1. Yay!
Update: The Ingenious One, Season 2 has now earned 1.5 million reservations and counting
The plot of the Chinese wuxia drama’s second season looks like this:
Yunxiang lives in seclusion in a small town on the southeast coast, hoping to live peacefully in the future and no longer get involved in disputes in the rivers and lakes.
However, he accidentally finds himself involved in a new conspiracy and once again joins hands with friends such as Kou Lianyi and Jin Shiliang to fight against the new dark forces.
Overcoming dangers on their way to find the truth, they gradually uncover the conspiracy and who is behind it. Thus, Yunxiang returns to the world, determined to turn the tide and quell the chaos.
Word on the street has it The Ingenious One 2 has also been bumped from 36 episodes to 38 (no official announcement of that has been made).
If that has happened, that means we will get two additional episodes compared to Season 1 for events to properly play themselves out.
All in all, my guess is The Ingenious One 2 will be dropping on iQIYI soon. I will keep you abreast of what’s going on here on Michelle Topham.
