Two character posters have dropped for the upcoming historical romance drama The Princess’s Gambit, and as a massive fan of Liu Xue Yi, one of China’s absolute best actors, I have to say I approve.
The latest visuals follow on from another of the C-drama’s teaser posters and film set stills, which were released on June 10th.
As you might expect, The Princess’s Gambit character posters just released are for the two main characters — left chancellor of the Qi Kingdom Shen Zai Ye (played by Liu Xue Yi) and princess of the Beiyuan Kingdom Jiang Tao Hua (Meng Zi Yi).
And while Shen Zai Ye looks suitably powerful as he grabs an arrow flying through the air, Jiang Tao Hua also appears as strong as he is, as she is gripping a knife as if she is about to kill the person moving towards her.
And, yes, while I am not a particular fan of Meng Zi Yi, as she has a habit of wearing one facial expression throughout an entire drama, even if her life is being threatened, her pairing with Liu Xue Yi is still an interesting one.
He is one of Chinese best actors, so maybe he will be able to draw out the acting skills she supposedly possesses. Fingers crossed, eh/
Meanwhile, the two The Princess’s Gambit character posters were released via the Tencent Video Weibo account earlier today, along with the comment:
“Robes dark as midnight—
Left Chancellor Shen Zaiye (@Mr_LiuXueyi) holds half the realm in his grasp.Gowns bright as dawn—
Princess Jiang Taohua (@MengZiyi) burns through storms with her blade.Equal in power, matched in wit, the stage is set for their epic clash.”
While there is still no firm premiere date for The Princess’s Gambit, Tencent is continuing to insist the Chinese drama will be coming to their platform “soon”.

Chinese netizens and C-drama fans in China are also insisting the drama will be premiering in June. With just over 10 days left then, let’s see if they are correct, eh? (Update: The Princess’s Gambit has officially been given the release date of June 25th so, yep, the netizens are correct again).
