I’m only surprised the heat index for Rosefinch isn’t even higher
The ongoing Chinese Republican-era crime thriller Rosefinch has just exceeded 23,000 on the Tencent heat index, with Tencent releasing a celebratory poster in response to its success.
And no, as someone who is currently engrossed in its strange story, I am not surprised as, although the Chinese drama is short in that its episodes are around 15 minutes in length, that certainly hasn’t negatively affected its quality.
Not when Rosefinch features beautiful sets, costumes and cinematography, gripping storytelling, superb pacing, solid acting from every cast member, and a plot that is exciting, full of twists and turns, and decidedly unique.
The drama is unusually violent too from what normally appears on Tencent. Whether that is a plus or not is up to you. For me, it’s not something I look out, but it doesn’t bother me overly much.

That Wan Qian (The Tale of Rose) plays mysterious dance hall owner Gao Ying perfectly, and that Qin Jun Jie (Heroes) does a brilliant job portraying English-educated but oddly strange forensic scientist Xia Mo adds even more layers to its gloriousness.
Throw in quirky Xia Mo’s sister, nicely played by Lin Le Xuan (The Perfect Suspect), and this has one of the more interesting casts I have seen in a Republican-era crime thriller.
The poster celebrating Rosefinch‘s 23,000 on the heat index (see above) features Wan Qian and Qin Jun Jie investigating the string of murder cases of showgirls.

Lock it in at Tencent (or on WeTV if you’re outside China), with new episodes dropping at 12 noon (Beijing Time) every day.
If you’re into crime thrillers, and haven’t yet started Rosefinch, I would say give it a good go (I’m currently midway through Episode 11 and obsessed), as it really is an exciting watch.
The C-drama’s first 20 episodes are streaming internationally via WeTV, with a new episode hitting the platform tomorrow.
Hint: If you’re looking for another superb short length C-drama, but one in a different genre, the just premiered supernatural historical mystery The Crime Unit of Tang Dynasty is an excellent watch.
