Six Legend of the Magnate stills have dropped today, as rumor has it the new Chen Xiao and Sun Qian historical drama will be premiering before the end of this month.
The stills feature leads Chen Xiao and Sun Qian, along with stills for supporting actors Luo Yi Zhou, Cheng Tai Shen, and guest stars Huang Zhi Zhong, and Li Chun.
iQIYI also commented about the Chinese historical business-themed drama’s plot:
Wealthy individuals from all walks of life gather together, each showing their unique skills to earn money step by step.
A nationwide tour across nine regions to make money, with every business, whether silver, tea, salt, or rice, becoming profitable. Come to iQIYI to make a reservation and “make a fortune together,” winning back your life!

Legend of the Magnate trailer
As you can probably guess from these six stills (above and below), the production company has obviously spared no expense when it comes to the intricate details appropriate to the Qing Dynasty period that are featured in the series.
But, if you think Legend of the Magnate will be some boring business-related drama, think again. Just check out its previously-released trailer and, Ye Gods, this one looks incredibly fun and exciting!

And yep, those beautiful production details are noticeable in that as well.
What’s the Legend of the Magnate plot?
Plot-wise, here’s what you can expect when Legend of the Magnate is released:
Gu Ping Yuan (played by Chen Xiao), a scholar who was framed and then exiled, carries the identity of a fugitive and struggles to survive.
But, he uses his wisdom to navigate the treacherous waters of the market, starting as a merchant, establishing himself through a bank, making his fortune in tea, building his business on salt, and providing grain to the people.
He clashes with various merchant groups, including Shanxi merchants, Anhui merchants, Beijing merchants, salt merchants, grain transport merchants, and foreign merchants, using his methods to build a new commercial empire.
Ultimately, he joins forces with several major Chinese merchant groups to fight against foreign merchants and save the nation’s economic lifeline, presenting a vivid picture of a generation of merchants serving their country through commerce.
If you’re into business-themed dramas, which I absolutely am, and like dramas with a lot of action, and that take place during the Qing Dynasty, Legend of the Magnate sounds like a fascinating watch. (Sign me up!)
Throw in it was written by Zhang Ting, whose previous dramas Fights Break Sphere and Wild Bloom were nicely paced and featured a whole load of excitement and, fingers crossed, this one should be just as good.

We are obviously also going to be getting an involved story, as the C-drama runs for 40 episodes. That’s a lot of business deals we have to look forward to, eh?
