Chinese streaming service iQIYI is reporting actor Cheng Yi‘s character Wangquan Fu Gui has already reached 200 million in character popularity, and it’s still weeks or even months before the C-drama he appears in, Sword and Beloved, airs.
That being said, Wangquan Fu Gui also appears in the hit donghua Fox Spirit Matchmaker, and in the manhua the donghua is based on, which is why his popularity is already off the charts, even before the first minute Cheng Yi appears on screen.

Along with the announcement of Wangquan Fu Gui earning 200 million popularity points, two visuals of Cheng Yi playing the part in Sword and Beloved were also released with the comment:

Wangquan Fu Gui, by the way, is the son of Wangquan Hong Ye and Dongfang Huai Zhu – the couple from the prequel drama Love in Pavilion.
That drama is something you may want to consider watching before Sword and Beloved as, while it isn’t a prerequisite for understanding the plot of the franchise’s latest drama, it does fill in some of the plot gaps.
As for the premiere date of Sword and Beloved, we still don’t have an officially scheduled release date on the wuxia fantasy drama.
Best guesstimates then indicate it will likely be in the fourth quarter of 2025 at the earliest before it drops.
