Fate Chooses You on its way to being a hit
At one time, I was not a huge Allen Ren fan, even though I had watched most of his dramas over the last decade.
But that all changed after his performances in both The Demon Hunter’s Romance and in Burning Flames, as I felt he showed a vulnerability he had been lacking in previous performances in those roles.
So, yes, I am excited his upcoming drama Fate Chooses You sounds like it features another male lead steeped in sadness and vulnerability, and even more thrilled that the drama has passed 3.16 million reservations, which means it may be popular as well.
iQIYI announced Fate Chooses You passing 3.16 million reservations earlier today, with a heads up to viewers that the Chinese drama will be premiering on April 25th.
The Chinese streaming platform also released a new Allen Ren and Wang He Run poster showing the Chinese actors in their Fate Chooses You lead roles as war demon Lu Qian Qiao and cultivator Xin Mei.
The announcement came on the heels of a previous announcement as the C-drama passed 1.8 million reservations that included a poster of Ren as Lu Qian Qiao.

The premise of Fate Chooses You
I am also intrigued with the Fate Chooses You plot, as I am a sucker for male leads who have lived for thousands of years as they tend to be life-weary and dead inside.
After all, that’s what an eternal life does to you when there is no way out.
In this case, the C-drama follows Ren’s character war demon Lu Qian Qiao as he chooses to participate in five trials so that he can shed off his war demon persona and become human.
Lu Qian Qiao is aided by an alliance with powerful but struggling to control her powers cultivator Xin Mei (played by Wang He Run). Although, at times, she is unaware she is helping.
As pairing go too, I think this one shows promise as it’s more unusual than what we often get.

Allen Ren, after all, is heading towards 40-years-old and has close to a decade of experience in a huge variety of main roles. Many of them standout roles where he has really made his mark.
Meanwhile, Wang He Run, who is six years younger, has about as much experience but, it is only in the last couple of years she has been grabbing more main roles than not. But, even then, in my opinion, nothing she has done has stood out overly much.
Pairing her with Allen Ren, who is one of China’s most talented actors in that every role he plays is quietly understated but memorable because of it, then may give us main leads who are epic. If he can draw out her best performance.
Here’s hoping, eh?
Fate Chooses You premieres internationally on iQIYI on April 25th, and on Tencent Video in China.
My guess is, with the leads, plus the pre-release buzz, we could just have another Allen Ren hit on our hands. Check out its official trailer and you may see.
