The Ingenious One, Season 2 adds 500,000 more reservations in just a month
It’s just a month since I reported here at Michelle Topham that the upcoming Chinese wuxia romance drama The Ingenious One 2 had earned 1 million reservations on iQIYI, and here we are again updating you on how well the C-drama is performing.
That’s because, according to iQIYI’s social media accounts, The Ingenious One, Season 2 has now exceeded 1.5 million reservations and, just like we said last time, a firm premiere date has yet to be announced.
As per usual, the reservations announcement arrived with a new poster — this time of male lead Chen Xiao, who again plays Yun Xiang / Luo Wen Jia in the wuxia drama, and a message from the streaming service hinting at its plot:
A chivalrous spirit gathers across mountains and seas, a thousand schemes unfold in the martial world; a turbulent game is about to begin, clever plans are brewing.
When is The Ingenious One, Season 2 premiering?
Honestly, I am quite surprised we still do not have a premiere date for the sequel to the hit 2023 romance drama.
After all, it completed its filming almost a year ago in January, 2025, and then earned its distribution license in July.
Sure, it is a 36-episode period piece, and they always do take a while in post-production but, at almost the year mark, you would think by now we would have an inkling of when we can expect The Ingenious One, Season 2 to drop, wouldn’t you?
I will keep you posted but, with just three weeks of the year left, it’s obviously not likely to premiere in 2025. Until then, enjoy the cool Chen Xiao visual.
Update, April, 2026: And yep, an official release date for the second season of the wuxia drama has still not been announced.
The Ingenious One, Season 2 stars Chen Xiao, Mao Xiao Tong, Liu Guan Lin, Cheng Xiao, Fan Shi Qi, and Liu Xie Ning.
Like the drama’s first season, Season 2 is directed by Patrick Yau, and written by Jiang Da Qiao, Liang Zhen Hua, and Yan Xi.
