Stills for Episode 13 thru 15 of Fate Chooses You drop
15 new stills have just been released for the ongoing Chinese wuxia drama Fate Chooses You.
A drama I have been obsessively watching since it premiered on April 25th as, when it comes to Allen Ren’s best roles, his portrayal of war god Lu Qian Qiao may just be one of them.
His superb performance playing a war god who is all but dead inside is spectacular due to those split-second micro-expressions flitting across his face, as even though the character initially comes off as cold and unfeeling, Ren’s subtle performance alone quickly proves otherwise.
Add in that he is paired in this one with Wang He Run, and with the two exhibiting some major chemistry already, and as fantasy wuxia go and 14 episodes in, Fate Chooses You has grabbed my attention more than most so far.
Fate Chooses You stills feature a nice representation of the stellar cast
The new Fate Chooses You stills that have just dropped are of a variety of characters/actors in the iQIYI/Tencent Video drama — yep, it is a co-production this time.
Of course, leads Allen Ren and Wang He Run are front and center, but we also got some cool stills of Sun Ze Yuan, Zhang Kai Ying, Zhang Yi Ge, Fu Wei Lun, Gao Shu Guang, Wang Ming Yang, Gong Zheng Ye, Ding Xiao Ying, and Xiao Shun Yao (Mysterious Lotus Casebook and The Secret of the Lost Pearl).
Now, along with Allen Ren, I have been obsessively watching the Chinese drama as one of my all-time faves, supporting cast member Xiao Shun Yao as Tianyuan sect disciple Bai Zong Ying has had a fairly sizeable role from around Episode 11 onwards.

And his role is as meaty as hell, as is his to-be-expected oozing-with-sex-appeal performance (Come on, the man is just hot!).
Gao Shu Guang has also been wonderful as Su Tai Yi, immortality pill inventor and elderly disciple of war god Lu Qian Qiao.
A man who, as his war god master has lived for hundreds of years, looks like the elder in the situation even though he is not. He is also utterly brilliant when he is being flung around the room by an incredibly angry Lu.
And, even though his character is thieving, conniving and annoying, Sun Ze Yuan‘s portrayal of sect spoilt brat and out for his own ends Lin Mu Han has been irritatingly superb.
I am only mentioning a handful of the characters appearing in the new stills as, if I commented on all the actors who have outdone themselves, I will still be writing this when the 40-episode drama ends.

As if all of the above aren’t good enough, another of my guys, Liu Xue Yi, will also be making a guest appearance later on in the drama playing Yuan Zhong, his character from the connected drama A Moment But Forever. So Yay, eh?
The plot of Fate Chooses You
Fate Chooses You follows war god Lu Qian Qiao (Allen Ren) and cultivator Xin Mei (Wang He Run), who first meet when he is in prison and about to be executed, but must find a wife before he is, or his ultimate life plan will not pan out.
Meanwhile, Xin Mei is looking for someone who will soon be dying to marry her as, she is under a curse causing anyone she falls in love or even pays attention to to almost immediately be struck down.
Of course, the pair marry then almost immediately part, as Xin Mei doesn’t really want to see her hubby-of-a-couple-of-days die a death of a thousand cuts.
In a normal world, that would be the end of their relationship, but the world of Fate Chooses You, and Lu Qian Qiao are anything but normal.
Then again, neither is Xin Mei as she finds out her “husband” was executed after being framed for something he didn’t do, and sets out to kill the four main officials involved.
Considering I have been watching Chinese dramas for over 20 years, even I was gripped by this plot as, starting off at least, it is far beyond your normal wuxia story.
Then again, it is from the pen of writer Shi Si Lang, who also wrote the equally gripping A Moment But Forever and Love and Redemption, so there’s that.
Enjoy the new Fate Chooses You stills and, if you have not started the wuxia series yet, they should give you an idea of the sumptuousness of the set and costume designs, and the attention-grabbing screen presence of some of the actors.
Fate Chooses You is streaming on iQIYI outside China, and has just dropped episodes 15 and 16 on the streaming platform.
Like I said, it is a 40-episode drama, so there is plenty to get your teeth into once you start.
