Now I am not a big fan of drama remakes, whether they are Chinese, Korean, Japanese or even western. After all, if I wanted that story, I would watch the original.
I’m saying this just to point out my bias when it comes to remakes like the just begun filming Chinese drama One Day in July, starring Shen Yue, and Edward Chen.
However, I will also point out my feeling may end up being different in this case as, instead of One Day in July being a remake of the Korean original Extraordinary You, the C-drama is actually directly based on the popular webtoon Extraordinary You was based on.
That webtoon is “July Found by Chance” (어쩌다 발견한 7월), written by Moo Ryoo (무류), and that alone means this one may turn out to be markedly different than its Korean version, eh?
With the lead and supporting role actors that have been chosen (see below), it could also easily echo the success of the Korean version starring Rowoon and Kim Hye Yoon, as the Chinese cast features several of the country’s hottest stars.
Production of One Day in July including booting ceremony photos
The Chinese comedy youth romance One Day in July (七月的一天) started filming on July 4th, which is a long time after it was registered with the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television way back in April, 2021.
Yep, these things sometimes do take time to come to fruition.
Booting ceremony photos were also dropped this week.
The Chinese comedy youth drama stars Shen Yue (Love in Pavilion) and Edward Chen (The First Frost), with a supporting cast that includes Tian Xu Ning (who recently caused a big stir in the BL romance Revenged Love), Ke Ying (Perfect Match), Wang Jun Hao (Indulgence), and Tyler Follmer (Love Again).
It is directed by actor Wang Hao (Touch Your Heart) in his directorial debut, with screenwriter Sun Xiao Xian (My People, My Homeland) writing scripts.
Of course, it will be eons before we see this on our screens (it is a Mango TV exclusive, by the way, and set to run for 24 episodes), but at least the long-awaited C-drama adaptation is now in production!
