Now, I have to admit, I am a watch-everything-and-obsess-over-how-sexy-he-is woman when it comes to Chinese actor Xiao Shun Yao (Fate Chooses You). A man who isn’t remotely stereotypically handsome but, boy, is he hot.
Although, I must admit, I prefer him in period/martial arts costume rather than contemporary clothing, but that’s just my own personal quirk.
Having said that, though, I am not averse to gazing admiringly at the latest poster for the upcoming mystery crime drama Origin, which just released two ‘Spring Festival’ posters today — one for the aforementioned Xiao Shun Yao, and the other for his female co-star Wu Jin Yan (Kill Me, Love Me), who is an excellent actress in her own right.
Origin should be heading our way some time this year (fingers crossed) and, in anticipation, as well as to celebrate Spring Festival, YOUKU has released those posters to celebrate both the festival and the soon-to-be-released drama.
YOUKU also wished all their viewers a “happy and healthy Chinese New Year” at the same time.
C-drama Origin production details
As you will probably know if you follow Chinese dramas as closely as I do, Origin is one of those that has slipped through the cracks, with not that much promotion being released since it was announced back in September, 2024.
That should change, however, as while the drama only wrapped its filming a week ago on February 12th, it is only 12 episodes so it’s highly likely we will get its first episodes some time towards the middle to the end of this year.

The C-drama features a superb cast, with Liu Guang Cheng (Sword and Beloved), Wang Qian Guo (The Truth Within), Lei Feng Rui (Romance in the Alley), Zhao Zhen Yu (The Princess Royal) and Shan Wan Qing (The Seven Relics of Ill Omen) joining Wu Jin Yan and Xiao Shun Yao.
Its plot also sounds unique, with YOUKU describing it in this way:
Five years ago, Zhou Yan (played by Wu Jin Yan), the first female thief, was imprisoned in Thailand for stealing the “Heart of the Earl”. She left Zhou Yu and her younger brother Zhou Hui to depend on each other in China. Five years later, Zhou Yan only wanted to depend on her family.
However, in order to protect her family, Zhou Yan was once again pulled back into the “unpredictable” world of thieves. Amidst the layers of mystery, the answer all pointed to the legendary sole heir of the thief family, that genius boy.
Whether some of that story takes place in Thailand, we have yet to find out. I am hoping it does, as I spent 14 years living in Bangkok and love to see dramas filmed in areas of Bangkok and other Thai cities I know well (I am talking about you Speed and Love).
Enjoy the two new Origin posters, and keep checking back to Michelle Topham as I will let you know as more information about the Chinese drama is released.
Update: May 5th, 2026 and, no, we still do not have a premiere announcement. Shucks, eh?!
