Of course I’m watching it – it’s Cheng Hua Sen
Honestly, I can’t say I paid that much attention to Chang Hua Sen until he played Chong Zhao in Moonlight Mystique, and then gave a kickass performance as Su Chang He in last year’s Blood River.
Now, he’s one of the Chinese actors I keep an eye on, as that Blood River performance especially was a thing of beauty.
And yep, while I am partial to the 28-year-old actor in period costume, he has a new sci-fi drama that kicked off its filming this week and, while sci-fi isn’t generally my thing, I will be making an exception for him.
The drama is titled Red Moon Appeared (aka 从红月开始), and its just-announced cast list also features a few other actors that are all kinds of cool.

The cast of Red Moon Appeared
One of Chang Hua Sen’s co-stars is Kevin Guo who, while he was at one time primarily known as a TV host, has given decent performances in a couple of dramas over the last few years, including the main role in The Road to Ordinary, and his very popular supporting role as Fan Si Zhe in both seasons of Joy of Life.
In the upcoming Red Moon Appeared, he plays Lu Xin who starts off as a lowly office worker, but suddenly finds himself as an agent with the Special Pollution Cleanup Department.

The two female leads are Jiang Pei Yao, who’s currently doing a bang up job in the ongoing mystery drama Light to the Night alongside Wang Hedi, and Chen Shu, who had superb chemistry with Vengo Gao in the still-hard-to-find 2024’s environmental crime drama Above the Rivers.
It’s an interesting quartet, and even more so when you know the drama’s plot follows a group of people with extraordinary powers that occurred when the moon suddenly turned red.

Red Moon Appeared also released its booting ceremony photos yesterday (below), along with stylized character visuals of the main four (above), and a confirmation of the Chinese drama’s cast, director and screenwriter.
They are:

Interestingly, late last year, it was announced that Linghe Culture Media was planning to invest and film Red Moon Appeared in Chengdu as part of a project that’s called “Building a Bridge for Cooperation between Shanghai and Chengdu’s Cultural and Creative Industries”.
With China’s drama industry continuing to only expand, it makes sense there will much more filming taking place outside Hengdian World Studios, Beijing and Shanghai, doesn’t it?
And, with Red Moon Appeared being just one of the new projects being filmed there, Chengdu is rapidly emerging as a major filming hub, poised to attract even more production activity in the future.
