Princess Agents sequel gets premiere date
In news that is a very nice surprise to all of us, Tencent Video has announced Li Yun Rui and Huangyang Tian Tian’s new drama Rebirth is getting an April 8th premiere, and has already exceeded 1 million pre-orders on the platform.
All I can say is, from the standout cast and the drama’s connection to its very popular prequel, you can probably expect that number to skyrocket in the next week, right?
The Chinese drama, by the way, is the sequel to the massively popular 2017 drama Princess Agents although, thank the Lord, it doesn’t have as many episodes (58 episodes for Princess Agents, while “only” 40 for Rebirth).
For those of us who haven’t watched its prequel, though, (that would be me, although I am making a valiant effort and am a few episodes in), I have it on good authority you may want to do that before you attempt to watch Rebirth as the plot does follow on from the original series.
Considering how long and involved that plot line was, kicking off Rebirth without at least a cursory understanding of who everyone is and how they are related to the plot will probably cause you a lot of confusion down the road. Just sayin’

Tencent’s announcement of 1 million reservations also arrived with a very cool but pretty desolate-looking poster of male lead Li Yun Rui, who plays General Zhuge Yue, along with a comment about its plot:
The icy lake tempers youthful resolve; schemes intertwine with love and hate. A song of chasing the wind sweeps through a chaotic age.
The Rebirth plot
The plot itself follows on from the events of Princess Agents, in this manner:
In the Battle of the Ice Lake, Zhuge Yue (played by Li Yun Rui) and Chu Qiao (played by Huangyang Tian Tian) fall into the ice lake. Chu Qiao is rescued by Yan Xun (played by Zhang Kang Le).
After learning that Zhuge Yue is dead, she seeks an opportunity to assassinate Yan Xun to avenge Zhuge Yue. Chu Qiao is then helped several times by a mysterious man.
She has a feeling of déjà vu and cannot help but suspect that Zhuge Yue is still alive.
Meanwhile, Yan Xun is becoming more and more ruthless and so stirs up chaos in the four kingdoms.
In the end, will Chu Qiao be able to pacify the world, make Yan Xun realize his mistakes, and join hands with Zhuge Yue to restore the beautiful homeland of the people?
The Rebirth cast is stellar
I will point out too that Rebirth stars one of the most interesting casts of 2026 as it features Li Yun Rui, Huangyang Tian Tian, Zhang Kang Le, Xia Meng and Li Xiao Qian.
Of course, you can also expect the usual gatekeepers to be complaining about the “age gap” between leads Huangyang Tian Tian (she’s almost 19) and Li Yun Rui (he’s 29). Even more so because he played her father in last year’s Perfect Match.
Because it wouldn’t be a Chinese drama if the “woke” and “morally superior” of the world didn’t have some negativity to bitch about, now would it?
And, like I intimated, now you have a week to watch all 58 episodes of Princess Agents, so you will know what’s going on when Rebirth drops on the 8th. 🙂

I also recommend you do as, while I am only 18 episodes in, it is ticking all my boxes for a very fun drama right from its spectacular opening scenes (except for one minorly annoying “baby voice” on a specific actress — I have no idea why Chinese directors still insist on this, but some of them do).
