Mei Zhu Yu (aka Xu Kai) exceeds 100 million character popularity points – 50 million in just 5 days

Mei Zhu Yu 100 million character popularity points

Incredible news just dropped about Moonlit Reunion male lead Mei Zhu Yu (played by Xu Kai) who, just five days after hitting 50 million character popularity points has now exceeded 100 million.

That high level of popularity means Mei Zhu Yu is the most popular character this month on Tencent’s entire network.

Tencent Video announced the news this morning, with another stunning visual from the popular Chinese drama, while saying:

#Xu Kai’s Character “Mei Zhu Yu” Surpasses 100 Million in Popularity#

Mei Lang Chases the Rain, Changxi’s Mace Returns

Congratulations to Xu Kai (@许凯soso) for his role’s popularity exceeding 100 million on Tencent Video, making it the most popular character in August 2025!

Disney+ has ruined the Moonlit Reunion release schedule

Unfortunately, while Moonlit Reunion has almost completed its 38-episode run on Tencent Video and WeTV, here in America, we are stuck with the drama streaming on Disney+ who are weeks behind dropping new episodes.

So much so, new episodes won’t arrive on that platform until September 7th, at which point the drama will be long-finished in China and much of the rest of the world.

Hence, why so many C-drama fans are now bootlegging the drama just to keep up with its Chinese release schedule.

Interestingly, however, even though Mei Zhu Yu has just exceeded 100 million popularity points, the C-drama itself is not particularly popular in China, as tens of thousands of Chinese viewers lambast the writers for turning out such a sub-standard script.

Moonlit Reunion exceeds 100 million barrage comments — people are definitely talking about the Chinese drama

So, yep, while you may not think Moonlit Reunion is as good as it could have been, and may have commented negatively about its disintegrating plot, (it certainly isn’t as well-written as it first appeared, although I am still watching Episode 18 so can’t comment on later events),  believe me, you are nowhere near as harsh as some of the many Chinese viewers currently lambasting the C-drama’s writers.

Fans on Weibo in particular are being very aggressive.

Meanwhile, for those in the U.S., Moonlit Reunion is now streaming on Disney+, albeit episodes behind Tencent Video and WeTV.

It streams on other platforms outside the U.S.

I will also caution, if you are reading the negative comments about the Chinese drama (it’s currently earning a low 7.9 out of 10 via My Drama List), and have not yet begun watching it, don’t allow others to make up your mind for you.

You may end up thinking Moonlit Reunion is the best thing since China began legally licensing its dramas for international viewers. Some people do.
