Sniper Butterfly is finally arriving on Tencent Video and WeTV

It’s been a few months since we had any new information about the release of the young man goes after older woman romance drama Sniper Butterfly, but today, in a nice surprise, we finally got the Sniper Butterfly premiere date — December 4th, 2026.

The 30-episode C-drama will be streaming exclusively on Tencent Video in China, and WeTV internationally, with new episodes releasing every day through its series finale.

Six Sniper Butterfly character visuals were released on Tencent’s social media to celebrate, along with a romantic-sounding synopsis of its plot:

The world is an amber of flowing light, and you and I are the colors of each other’s redemption. Blossoms bloom and fade, yet fate brings us together here, becoming the most dazzling intersection in each other’s lives.

Sniper Butterfly cast

The upcoming romance drama’s cast has Michelle Chen (Dear Enemy) and Daniel Zhou (A Moment But Forever) as the main leads, with Liu Rui Lin (Who Rules the World), Chen Xiao Yun (Brocade Odyssey), Xie Xing Yang (Jia You Ba Shao Nian), and Cheng Ya Zhao (You In Me) in supporting roles.

While I enjoy both Michelle Chen and Daniel Zhou performances, in this one it is Liu Rui Lin I am particularly excited about seeing in this one.

He gave a stellar performance in Who Rules the World, even if his character, Prince Feng Ju, was a scumbag, and was a standout in both Growing Together and and The Youth Memories. Both supporting roles, but ones Liu Rui Lin really got his teeth into.

Again, even if he does deserve more roles, and its another supporting role for the 35-year-old actor in Sniper Butterfly, but I am intrigued to see what he does with it.

Sniper Butterfly plot

The plot for the romance drama is also unusual in that it covers a true age-gap romance of a man in his early 20s and a woman two decades older.

Here’s what it looks like:

When Cen Jin falls into a low point in her life, she receives a call for help from Li Wu, a rural boy she once supported. Li Wu’s determination moves her, and she decides to bring the orphaned, soon-to-drop-out Li Wu to Haishi to study. With Li Wu’s company, Cen Jin walks out of the pain of her divorce and returns to the workplace, becoming a rising curator.

At the same time, Li Wu cherishes the learning environment Cen Jin creates for him. He studies hard and finally gets into his dream university. After entering college, Li Wu gradually becomes aware of his feelings for Cen Jin, and Cen Jin learns of them as well. She knows this affection is too heavy and complex.

During his university years, Li Wu ultimately does not receive a reply from her. Heartbroken, he leaves for a distant place, and the two part ways.

Six years later, Li Wu, now an accomplished professional, returns to Haishi and reunites with Cen Jin through work. He appears not to mention the past, but his love for her remains unchanged. Moved by Li Wu’s sincerity and courage, Cen Jin chooses to respond to his love honestly.

Yes, some people will have a problem with the ‘age gap’, just like they do with an age gap of main leads who are five years apart, let alone 20. But it does mirror real life as, yep, there are couples where the woman is markedly older than the man.

And isn’t nice to cover every kind of story? Even if it may not always fit your own morals.

Now let’s see if Michelle Chen and Daniel Zhou (which, I think, is superb casting,, by the way — and Ye Gods, how is Michelle Chen 42 years old???) are able to make their relationship believable or just cringe.
