Remember, we talked about William Chan and Joseph Zeng’s new tomb-raider-ish drama The Mystic Nine: Against the Coming Storm already grabbing 1 million pre-orders, and the darn thing was still filming?
Well, it’s now only a couple of months after that, and the C-drama’s reservations have already shot up by another half a million
Just in case you are not aware, the Chinese adventure thriller The Mystic Nine: Against the Coming Storm (formerly known as The Treasured Bajia Book) is the sequel to the 2016 drama The Mystic Nine.
Although, other than William Chan and Hanson Ying, both of whom are now a decade older, it features a completely different main cast.

Three members of that cast — William Chan, Joseph Zeng (aka Zeng Shun Xi) and Sebrina Chen (aka Chen Yao) — also just got new stills dropping this weekend via YOUKU as The Mystic Nine: Against the Coming Storm has now officially exceeded 1.5 million reservations and YOUKU is obviously thrilled.

The Chinese drama’s stills were released with a message from the streaming service saying:

A premiere date for the 36-episode The Mystic Nine: Against the Coming Storm (title 九门 or ‘Nine Gates‘ in China) has not yet been announced.

Although, as the Chinese drama only started filming in June this year, and a filming wrap has not yet been announced, it will likely be some time in 2026 before it arrives.
The drama’s plot is similarly vague:
The Xiang River surges as a storm approaches, and the road is filled with thorns. The nine gates are connected and a new situation has been established.
We will set off today.
Joseph Zeng’s Veil of Shadows dropping soon?
Also, don’t forget, as The Mystic Nine: Against the Coming Storm isn’t likely to drop for at least another year, Joseph Zeng’s newest drama — the fantasy wuxia drama Veil of Shadows is rumored to be releasing some time in 2026 — (Update: It’s dropping April 8th — hallefreakinlujah!) — so at least you can get your Da Yan Zai fix with that.
Along with Zeng, that one also has a stellar cast that includes Chen Du Ling, Wang Duo, Ju Jing Yi and Tian Jia Rui, and it is written and directed by Edward Guo (Fangs of Fortune).
While sure, it won’t offer you the same type of tomb raiding plot as The Mystic Nine (although Xiao Shun Yao‘s new short drama The Secret of the Lost Pearl sort of does) , from the cast and writer/director alone, I am sure it will offer its own charms.
Keep an eye out for it then, eh?
