Two more character posters dropped today, June 20th, 2025 for upcoming C-drama The Princess’s Gambit, which is due to premiere on Tencent Video later this month. (Update: It’s premiere date has finally been announced as June 25th on Tencent Video and WeTV).
Along with the latest visuals, Tencent also commented:

“Bamboo chills with frost—a mind deep as abyss;
Peach blossoms sway in wind—love and hate entwined.”Shen Zai Ye (Liu Xue Yi) and Jiang Tao Hua (Meng Zi Yi) enter the game — two forces of nature bound by fate.

They follow on from the character posters released earlier in the month, and fit the same theme — two main leads who both seem powerful and strong.
Although, from the little I know about the C-drama’s plot, I don’t think Meng Zi Yi’s character, Jiang Tao Hua, is particularly strong? At least in the physical sense.
If anything, she is a woman who always needs the protection of others, as she plays an exiled princess who is poisoned, and has to rely on the people who poisoned her, as well as someone who may have fallen in love with her, to help her survive.
Now, I am not a fan of dramas about weak women. Not unless they suddenly become strong so, hopefully, what we actually get is a little more complicated than that?

Considering The Princess’s Gambit is penned by Su Ni, who served up a truly mediocre script with Wrong Carriage, Right Groom, (way too many side plots and side characters that deviated from the main plot itself), I cannot say I am holding out much hope this one will be any better.
Update, July 30th: Sadly, it’s not. If anything, it’s worse. This comment from a Douban user who detested The Princess’s Gambit as much as I did, explains why.
