At least a year before The Mystic Nine premieres, it’s already hugely popular
The upcoming Chinese historical adventure thriller The Mystic Nine: Against the Coming Storm (aka The Treasured Bajia Book), which only began filming on May 31st, 2025 at Hengdian Film and Television City has already exceeded 1 million pre-orders on YOUKU. (Holy Schmoley, they’ve already increased to 1.5 million and climbing!)
An odd state of affairs you might think, considering it will likely be at least mid-2026 before The Mystic Nine: Against the Coming Storm premieres.
But, when you know The Mystic Nine: Against the Coming Storm is the sequel to the popular 2016 drama The Mystic Nine, which we have all been dying to watch the sequel to since it ended in October of that year, having so many people reserving the C-drama already suddenly doesn’t sound so strange.
In celebration of the already 1 million reservations, YOUKU released a new visual (above) along with the message:

The Mystic Nine: Against the Coming Storm production details
The upcoming 36-episode drama stars William Chan (See Her Again), Joseph Zeng (aka Zeng Shunxi) (Snowy Night Timeless Love), and Sebrina Chen (aka Chen Yao) (Best Enemy).
It is again directed by The Mystic Nine directors Leung Sing Kuen (The Demon Hunter’s Romance) and Wong Chun Man (Braveness of the Ming), and produced by YOUKU, Quantum Pan Entertainment, and Southern Pan Entertainment.
The Chinese drama has already released character visuals and a concept poster, while filming is still ongoing.
Stay tuned here as I will of course, be back as more information is released but, considering The Mystic Nine: Against the Coming Storm is already generating this much interest (it’s the cast, right??!!), and the C-drama is still filming, it bodes well for its future success already, don’t you think?
Update, March 13th: If you’re a William Chan fan, you might also want to keep an eye on his latest drama, which kicked off filming this week. It’s called Love Kills Slowly,co-stars Zhong Chu Xi, and it’s apparently Toxic Romance R Us.
