One of the things that got me into watching Chinese dramas when I moved to Thailand were the gorgeous posters production companies dropped for their promotions.
Over two decades later, and Chinese drama companies and streaming services still massively outdo just about any other nationalities’ visuals when it comes to the posters they create.
Posters that make you desperate to watch an upcoming drama, as it just looks so damned PRETTY!
Why Is He Still Single? follows the story of a designer – no wonder its posters are so cool
Case in point, look at the latest poster that pops right off the screen for Wallace Huo and Zhu Zhu’s new rom-com drama Why Is He Still Single?, which premieres on Tencent Video/WeTV on Sunday.
Because, hell, the Chinese do a great job in knowing just what to concentrate on to make a drama look interesting, and then back that up with the most beautiful colors, don’t they?
Then again, it’s not surprising the latest Why Is He Still Single? poster is so cool, as the C-drama itself does follow the romance of a renowned designer, who wins more prizes for his work than most.
You only have to watch the Chinese drama’s trailer below to understand aesthetics will likely play as big of a part in the drama as they do in its promo posters.
So much so, I’ve been coveting protagonist Yu Yu’s gorgeous apartment since I first watched it.
This is the second Why Is He Still Single? poster to drop in the last two days, by the way, with the drama’s premiere coming out of the blue after nary a word about its arrival for almost a year and a half since filming ended.

Along with the latest poster, Tencent commented this about its plot:
Being single is a compulsory lesson for everyone. Some feel anxious, some enjoy it, and others simply go with the flow and keep a calm mind, hoping to meet the one who fits them best when they’re in a more grounded, self-consistent state.
The rom-com is directed by Qie Guowei, and written by Bu Xiaofeng and Gui Dongming.
It stars Wallace Huo in only his second drama lead in six years, which is why so many of us are looking forward to this, with the wonderful Zhu Zhu (The Silent Storm) as its female lead.
Fei Qiming, Eleanor Lee, Fan Jingyi and Zhang Yao are supporting, and the production company confirmed late yesterday it will run for 16 episodes. So four more than the original Japanese drama it’s based on.
