After a year and a half, the C-drama finally gets its premiere
Update – November 16th: I’m now 2 episodes into Why Is He Still Single? and could not love this more — it’s well-written, great dialogue, genuinely funny, Wallace Huo and Zhu Zhu are perfect as the leads, with awesome chemistry, its supporting characters are just as interesting and just as well-acted, and the cinematography around Shanghai, and the drama’s sets, are gorgeous! Recommend. Recommend. Recommend.
Well, here’s one I have been waiting for since it ended filming in May last year (yep, it has been that long) — Wallace Huo’s long-anticipated romance drama Why Is He Still Single? finally has a premiere date — November 16th, 2025 on Tencent Video/WeTV.
Why Is He Still Single? also stars Zhu Zhu, one of those older Chinese actresses (she’s 41 to Wallace Huo’s 45) who always delivers, and with a decent supporting cast that includes Fei Qi Ming (The Abyss), Eleanor Lee (second female lead in The Journey of Legend), Edward Zhang (Guardians of the Dafeng), and Fan Jing Yi (The Legend of Heroes).
The Why Is He Still Single? premiere date came with an announcement poster starring the two leads, and a Tencent comment saying:
There are countless reasons to be single, and countless possibilities for falling in love. Fortunately, he and she are each other’s best choice.
Now that sounds hopeful, doesn’t it?

The Why Is He Still Single? plot looks adorably cute
Originally called The Man Who Can’t Get Married, the title was changed to Why Is He Still Single? (a bit less negative, maybe?). Although that was the title of the Japanese drama this one is based on, so…
There is no word yet on how many episodes the Chinese remake will comprise, but the J-drama was 12 episodes when it aired way back in 2006.
Hopefully it will be at least that, but not as many as 40, as I don’t see dragging this premise out for so many episodes would be a particularly interesting watch, do you?
I have to say though, the plot synopsis we do have sounds cute and fun:
Yu Yu (Wallace Huo), a man who loves life, is in his forties but declares he will not marry. Is he a heartthrob, adored by many, or a straight man that women avoid like the plague? Is it that he “doesn’t want to get married” or that he “can’t get married”?
When this eccentric, single man finally meets the goddess of his dreams, how will he react?
and the official trailer makes this one look like the characters will be people you quickly grow to love (even if one of them is arrogant and too far up his own rear end for his own good – shrug).
Plus, come on, after age 30, isn’t it nice to occasionally get a romance drama that isn’t populated by 20-somethings?
Throw in that this will only be the second drama Wallace Huo has starred in during the last six years (he was the main lead in Hide Games earlier in the year, after an almost six-year sabbatical from leading C-drama roles), and I am itching to see how well this turns out.
The Chinese romance drama hits WeTV on Sunday, so that’s what I will be doing with my evening. How about you?
