Chinese historical mystery drama The Princess’s Gambit premiered on WeTV and Tencent Video earlier today as one of the most talked about C-dramas of recent months.
One of the reasons why that has happened is, since it became obvious The Princess’s Gambit would be released soon, Tencent has done an excellent job dropping promotional piece after promotional piece to really get people’s anticipation cooking.
And, now that the Chinese drama is out, those promo pieces have still not stopped with the latest being The Princess’s Gambit ensemble cast poster that was released via Tencent’s Weibo account this morning.
Yep, I would say Tencent is going ‘all in’ on this one, wouldn’t you?

The C-drama is directed by Yi Jun (Lost Track of Time), with Su Ni (Wrong Carriage, Right Groom) writing the scripts.
The Princess’s Gambit plot, according to Tencent, goes like this:
The Princess’s Gambit tells the story of the prime minister of Qi State Shen Zai Ye (played by Liu Xue Yi) who meets the princess Jiang Tao Hua (played by Meng Zi Yi) of Beiyuan State due to a deliberate frame-up by a political enemy.
One is black and cruel, the other is cunning and clever.
Under the turbulent situation of the two dynasties, the two fight wits and courage and plot against each other.
The first four episodes of the Chinese drama are now streaming on WeTV internationally in most regions. Or on Tencent Video in China.
And no, I can’t tell you much about it yet, as Episode 1 is as far as I got before life disturbances arrived. But, from the one episode I did watch, I can say it appears promising.
