5 days before The Vendetta of An premiers and it’s already heading towards 4 million reservations
Along with the announcement this morning about The Vendetta of An premiering on December 12th, we also got word the upcoming historical mystery drama has already exceeded 3.5 million pre-orders, and we still have five more days before the Chinese drama releases. Hurrah!
As you would probably expect, another visual of the C-drama’s star, Cheng Yi as Xie Huai An, was released by YOUKU as they announced the news and, from this one, and the recently released trailer, much of the drama looks like it’s going to be quite bleak.
Then again, it is all about political unrest and revenge, as Xie Huai An seeks retribution against Yan Feng Shan (played by Zhang Han Yu) for the murder of his father.
So, let’s face it, we are not likely to be getting rainbows and unicorns now, are we?
Hopefully The Vendetta of An is better than Sword and Beloved and The Journey of Legend
Chinese historical action thriller The Vendetta of An is written by Shuang Cheng, who did a very nice job with scripts for Joseph Zeng and Li Yu Ning‘s 2022 drama Heroes, and directed by Lin Feng (The Journey of Legend and Love and Crown), so this one comes with some major promise.
Let’s hope, though, that it turns out better than Cheng Yi’s dramas this year — Sword and Beloved and The Journey of Legend — both of which also held great promise, and both of which I have still to finish, as they failed to deliver on much of it due to terrible scripts and questionable directing.
Then again, with the awful way Cheng Yi’s dramas have gone lately, it would be a win if his character, Xie Huai An, gets to The Vendetta of An‘s series finale (Episode 28) and actually survives, wouldn’t it?
Look out for the first episodes of The Vendetta of An premiering on YOUKU in China and internationally on Friday. And fingers crossed I won’t be coming back here soon after to whine about it.
Update: The Vendetta of An has already passed 9,500 on the heat index on its third day of release – yep, the C-drama going to be a smash hit!
