The fast success of The Vendetta of An shouldn’t surprise any Cheng Yi fan, myself included
In news that, for me at least, isn’t remotely surprising considering how obsessed Cheng Yi fans are about their idol (and I understand, as he is one of my faves as well), the Chinese actor’s newly released drama The Vendetta of An has already exceeded 9,500 on the YOUKU heat index.
Considering hitting 10,000 on that platform’s index means a drama is an absolute smash hit, I would say Cheng Yi probably doesn’t have to worry about the success of this one, eh?
The announcement of the Chinese historical mystery thriller grabbing 9,500 came out earlier today via YOUKU’s social media accounts, with a new visual and a message saying:
Popularity surpasses 9500!! The city of Chang’an is shrouded in mystery, Xie Huai An’s revenge plan unfolds step by step, with high-energy twists and turns along the way.
The visual features Cheng Yi at its center, along with some of the most important men in the drama.
The drama itself, while starting out as a revenge drama, has a lot more political intrigue going on under the surface, so is likely to develop into something a lot more complicated.

I have to admit with the Christmas holidays on their way, and a trip to the U.S, on Wednesday, I have only had time to watch Episode 1 so far, so cannot comment in too much depth about where the so-far very dark plot is likely to end up. At least yet.
I will do that more once I have watched more episodes on the plane.
Historical action thriller The Vendetta of An stars Cheng Yi, alongside Liu Yi Jun, Wang Jin Song, Zhou Qi, Tong Meng Shi and Xu Lu.
YOUKU Is already streaming nine episodes, with more dropping every day through to the end of the 28-episode series. Netflix is also streaming the historical political intrigue drama in the United States and several other countries. Check your local listings to see if that applies to you.
Enjoy as, so far at least, it’s a very worthwhile watch.
And congratulations to the cast, director and crew for grabbing 9,500 on the index already, as that is quite an achievement.
