I know I keep saying this, but I am always blown away by how beautiful the posters and billboards Chinese streaming services release when they are promoting their upcoming or ongoing dramas.

Case in point, new photos released by iQIYI on their Weibo account showing This Thriving Land billboards on the streets of Beijing, as the Chinese drama premieres tomorrow on iQIYI.

The photographs of the This Thriving Land billboards were uploaded to iQIYI’s Weibo account with a comment that also tagged the Weibo accounts of the main actors in the series:

The first wave is here, shining bright! ✨

Tons of photo spots, full of grandeur! Come and meet Ning Xiu Xiu (Yang Mi — @杨幂), Feng Da Jiao (Ou Hao — @欧豪), Ning Xue Xiang (Ni Da Hong), Fei Zuo Shi (Qin Hai Lu — @秦海璐), and Ning Su Su (Xing Fei — @邢菲_)!

Starting August 13, tune in to iQIYI’s “Everyone’s Theater” and join the residents of Tianniu Temple Village as they write their life stories on this land!

The 36-episode slice-of-life drama premieres on iQIYI tomorrow.

It is directed by Liu Jia Cheng (Wings of the Nation), and written by Wang He (Sunshine Police).

Billboards for C-dramas often appear in subway stations and in shopping malls

It is set in a small farming village, and is a pro-China drama that tells the story of Ning Xiu Xiu whose life suddenly takes a tragic turn.

But, as the drama’s focus is on showing the way people work through hardships to make their communities better, it’s not likely to be doom and gloom for long.

The Chinese online encyclopedia Baidu Baike explains the This Thriving Land plot like this:

On the day of her wedding, Ning Xiuxiu (played by Yang Mi), the daughter of the wealthiest man in Tianniu Temple Village, is kidnapped by bandits.

Her father, Ning Xuexiang (played by Ni Da Hong), refuses to sell land to ransom her and instead marries her younger sister, Ning Susu (played by Xing Fei), to her childhood sweetheart, Fei Wen Dian (played by Zhang Tian Yang).

Heartbroken and resolute, Xiuxiu severs ties with her father and marries the peasant farmer Feng Da Jiao (played by Oho Ou), who rescued her from the bandits.

Learning to work the land, she gradually comes to understand its significance to farmers.

While the Chinese drama has been confirmed for China on CCTV and iQIYI, there is no word yet if This Thriving Land will premiere on iQIYI international tomorrow.
