I am ecstatic to report this morning that Ryan Cheng (aka Cheng Lei) and Bai Lu’s Mo Li finally has a release date, along with its official English title — The First Jasmine.
(And is it just me, or does it also drive you nuts that Chinese production companies often refuse to release English titles of their dramas until just a few days before they premiere? It plays havoc on being able to promote the drama for people like me).
Anyway, The First Jasmine‘s premiere date is June 9th, so just a couple of weeks away and, believe me, that’s actually a pretty big heads up for the premiere of a C-drama, considering many of them don’t get their release dates announced until a couple of days before they drop.
The First Jasmine got its premiere date this morning along with a couple of new posters of the drama’s main leads, and a comment from Tencent Video:
Silken threads twine around my fingers; our hearts, each knows the other’s thoughts.
Past sorrows shackle us, yet our steadfast vows shall see us through the rest of our lives.
Tencent also reminded everyone The First Jasmine will be a Tencent Video (and WeTV international) exclusive.

And sure, June 9th is still almost two weeks away, but I haven’t even finished watching Bai Lu’s last drama Unveil: Jadewind yet, so the lag will give me time to do that. How about you?
New The First Jasmine trailer
A new trailer for The First Jasmine was also released on Tencent Video’s Costume YouTube channel this morning and, it immediately grabbed my attention as an unusual one as, unlike the previous trailers that show the C-drama off as more of an historical romance story, this one makes it appear to be way more horror.
As a massive horror fan myself, I say, sign me up as this one looks ridiculously creepy.

The latest trailer shows Bai Lu as Ye Li, who has just been married off to the crippled prince Mo Xiu Yao, and introduces a woman who appears to be able to see spirits and ghosts, while her husband seems suitably freaked out for her.
But, as often happens in Chinese dramas, things are not quite what they seem, with the couple who were first antagonists and suspicious of each other soon becoming partners in an alliance against those who would harm them.
Honestly, everything about this one, from the characters to the plot, screams “Shady AF”, and I am all in for all of it.
The fantasy historical romance drama also features Cai Zheng Jie, Lin Mu Ran, Yang Shu Yi, Feng Xue Ya and Shawn Zhang as supporting cast members.
In other words, we’re not going with A-list actors here, but with a cast of largely not-particularly-well-known actors. Something I am loving, as I do keep complaining that, as every new drama releases, it’s the same old same old actors playing the same type of roles.
In this one then, apparently not.
Although…Xuan Yan (The Demon Hunter’s Romance) and Qiu Xin Zhi (Dashing Youth and The Legend of Shen Li) do have guest roles.
Look out for The First Jasmine (aka Mo Li) hitting WeTV on June 9th. And now I am off to finish Unveil: Jadewind so I am ready to soak in all the epicness of this when it does.
